Aftercare for lash lifts and brow lifts: what to recommend to your clients and what to retail to them

The first 24 hours, Step 3 in the salon, the serum at home, the gel for laminated brows: the complete after-lift protocol, client by client, and how to turn it into retail sales without ever being pushy.

Your lash lift is perfect when the client leaves the salon. Three weeks later, she comes back saying that “it didn't last.” In most cases, the technique is not to blame: she got her lashes wet that same evening, slept on her face, applied waterproof mascara the next day, or applied castor oil “to nourish them” on the very first evening. Aftercare for lash lifts and brow lifts is not an extra: it is the third of the result that you do not control… unless you organize it.

This guide clearly separates the three moments that matter: what you do in the salon immediately after setting, what the client must do (and not do) for 48 hours, and what she applies until the next appointment. For each moment, we indicate the type of product suited to the client, with the references available in Brow.X Professional's Care collection and Retail collection.

A lift that lasts six weeks is one-third technique, one-third product… and one-third of what the client does at home.

01 — The first 48 hours

Why the 24- to 48-hour instructions make or break the result

During the treatment, Step 1 opens the cuticle and breaks the disulfide bonds in the keratin; Step 2 reforms them in the new position, on the pad or brush. But the fiber remains “malleable” for approximately 24 hours: the keratin finishes stabilizing, and the cuticle gradually closes. Anything that introduces moisture, heat, or mechanical pressure during this window can relax the curl, create a crease, or flatten a brow. After 48 hours, the result is set; all that remains is to maintain it.

No water or steam for 24 hours

No showering the face, sauna, intensive exercise, or tears if possible. Moisture rehydrates the fiber before the bonds have set: this is the main cause of a lift that “didn't take.”

No eye makeup for 24 hours

Mascara makes the lashes stick together, and removing it requires rubbing. For brows, no pencil or gel until the next day.

No oil for 48 hours

Castor oil, biphasic makeup remover, rich cream around the eye: oily substances soften freshly set fibers. After 48 hours, in small amounts and in the evening, they no longer cause any problems.

Do not rub or sleep on them

One night on the face is enough to flatten one side. Advise her to sleep on her back the first night, or use a silk pillowcase if she cannot stay in position.

Brush, but on dry hair and upward

Starting the next day, a quick brush with a clean spoolie in the morning fans out the lashes and straightens the brows. This is the step that makes the result last.

Tint on the same day: the instructions are cumulative

Lift + tint means two chemical treatments on the same fiber. The 24 hours without water also protect the color, and hydration afterward becomes mandatory, not optional.

These six instructions fit on a card. Say them out loud while the client is still lying down, then give her the written version (template in section 07): what you say while she is looking for her keys is forgotten in the elevator.

02 — In the salon

Step 3: the step the client does not see, but that changes how long the result lasts

After rinsing Step 2, the fiber is clean, open and dehydrated. Step 3 (treatment, nourishing or regenerating, depending on the brand) closes the cuticle with hydrolyzed keratin, lightweight oils or hyaluronic acid, restores flexibility and seals the curl. Skipping it to save three minutes comes at a cost twice over: dry lashes that catch on mascara, and a client who leaves with weakened fibers… which you will have to treat again in six weeks.

Three application rules apply to all systems: apply to a dry fiber (wipe with cotton after Step 2), in a thin layer from root to tip, and leave it on rather than rinse when indicated by the manufacturer. On brows, finish by brushing the hair into the desired position: the treatment also sets the “styling.”

Should you stick to the brand used for Steps 1 and 2? For Steps 1 and 2, yes, always: they are formulated to work together. For Step 3, it's more flexible: a treatment without a lift-active ingredient can follow any system. That's what allows the PURE K Elixir to serve as the sole Step 3 in the salon, whether you work with PURE K, Early, Noemi or Thuya.

03 — At home

Which treatment should you recommend based on the client?

There is no universal "serum after a lash lift": there are dry lashes, brittle lashes, brows that fall back down and clients who want more density. The right recommendation depends on what you observed on the pad. Here's how we choose.

Fine, porous lashes or lashes that have "drunk up" the lotion

They need keratin and an active ingredient that seals. The Maxymova After Lift Regenerator (bamboo biosilicates) is designed precisely for this, from the end of the treatment and then at home; available in 5 ml and in 1.5 ml sachets for resale.

Dry lashes after lift + tint

Prioritize hydration without heavy oils: the Maxymova Hyaluronic Serum 5 ml (multi-weight hyaluronic acid, collagen, keratin) is applied in the evening to clean lashes, with no rinsing.

Client who wants "more lashes"

This is the most common request and the easiest to convert: the Lash & Brow Cocktail Serum (peptides + botanical actives) is offered in 5 ml at the counter, and in 15 ml for those who repurchase.

Laminated brows that fall back down in the morning

A conditioning styling gel, not a makeup gel. The Brow Daddy Vanilámi Aftercare Gel (hydrolyzed keratin, 3 ml) sets and nourishes; Bellam Everyday and Noemi's Browmi are suitable for clients who want a daily "brow lift" effect.

Client subscribed to a lift + tint every 6 weeks

The lash fiber undergoes cumulative treatments. Offer an in-salon repairing treatment every other time, using Zola Botox Cure (sericin, fibroin, keratin, and hydrolyzed collagen) or, for very damaged lashes, Goccia Blue with keratin. Whether charged or complimentary, this treatment is what allows you to continue performing lifts without causing breakage.

Client who “will not apply anything”

Do not sell; advise: dry brushing in the morning, gentle oil-free makeup removal in the evening, and no waterproof products. Note “declines treatment” in the record, and offer it again at the next appointment when she notices the difference in longevity.

Oil or no oil?

The question comes up in every training session. Our position: no oil for 48 hours, then lightweight oils are tolerated in the evening for clients with dry lashes, but never as the main treatment after a lift. A water-based keratin or hyaluronic acid serum nourishes without weighing down or relaxing the curl, and is easier to sell because it is not sticky. Reserve castor oil for clients who do not have a lift.

04 — The schedule

When to apply what, from J0 to the next appointment

  1. J0, in the salon: Step 3 on dry fibers, brushing, a photo of the result, instructions given aloud, and an advice sheet provided with the take-home product.
  2. J0 → H+24: nothing on the eyes. No water, makeup, rich cream, or exercise; sleep on your back.
  3. H+24 → H+48: dry brushing in the morning. Cleaning with lukewarm water is allowed, patting dry. Still no oil or waterproof mascara.
  4. From H+48: apply the serum once a day in the evening to clean, dry lashes or eyebrows, using a minimal amount at the roots. On laminated eyebrows: use the conditioning styling gel in the morning.
  5. Weeks 1 to 6: gentle oil-free makeup removal, daily brushing, regular mascara if she insists (never waterproof). Continue the serum: it prepares the lash fiber for the next lift.
  6. Weeks 6 to 8: return to the treatment room. For tired lashes, do a restorative treatment before lifting again; otherwise, perform a new treatment and restock the serum. See “How long does a Korean lash lift last?” to set the frequency according to the lash cycle.
24 h · 48 h · 6 weeks

24 hours without water or makeup, 48 hours without oils, then a daily serum until the next appointment: that is the rule to remember, and it applies to lashes as well as brows.

05 — Reselling

How to resell aftercare without ever seeming like you are selling

Reselling in a salon fails for one simple reason: it is offered at checkout, like an add-on. It works when it is part of the consultation, while the client is still lying down and you have just explained why her lashes are dry. Here is the approach we see working.

  1. Diagnose out loud during the treatment. “Your lashes are quite fine, and they took the lotion very quickly: we’ll need to strengthen them between lifts.” The need is established before the product.
  2. Apply the product you are going to recommend. The Step 3 or serum you apply at the end of the treatment is the one she leaves with. She has felt it and seen how it is applied: half the sale is already made.
  3. Offer a trial size. A 1.5 ml sachet or a 3 ml Vanilámi unit sells for between €10 and €15 without hesitation; the 5 ml bottle follows at the next appointment.
  4. Give the aftercare sheet with the product. The treatment instructions and frequency are written on it. The client no longer wonders, “What do I do with this?”
  5. Note it in the client record. Product sold, date, reaction. At the next appointment: “Have you finished the serum?” is enough to trigger a refill purchase.

On the pricing side, the usual rule in salons is to resell at around twice the professional price: a serum bought for €24.90 sells for €45 to €49, while a Vanilámi gel bought for €9.90 per unit (or €6.99 per pack of 10) resells for €13 to €15. For a client who gets a lift every six weeks, the serum generates as much revenue over the year as an additional service, without taking up any treatment time. We explain the full calculation in “How much to charge for a lash lift in 2026”.

Brow Daddy Vanilámi Brow Styling Aftercare Gel 3 ml, brow care gel to retail after a brow lift
Brow Daddy Vanilámi Aftercare Gel 3 ml — sold individually, in packs of 5 or 10, the simplest retail product to offer after a brow lift.

Where to start if you do not yet have any retail products?

Three products are enough to cover 90% of clients: a keratin serum for weakened lashes (After Lift Regenerator in sachets), a density serum for those who want fuller lashes (Cocktail 5 ml), and a brow care gel for brow lifts (Vanilámi). Add Botox Cure in the salon for lift + tint subscribers, and you have a real care journey, not a display stand.

06 — The mistakes

The six mistakes that ruin an after-lift

Oil-based serum from the first evening

The client wants to do the right thing and relaxes her curl overnight. Always specify “starting the day after tomorrow,” and offer a water-based serum rather than an oil.

Skipping Step 3 “because there isn't time”

Three minutes less, a dry fiber that catches, and a subsequent lift that breaks. If you need to save time, save it elsewhere.

Waterproof mascara

It requires an oil-based makeup remover and mechanical rubbing every evening: this is the exact combination that makes lifted lashes fall out prematurely.

Instructions given only verbally

A client remembers one instruction out of three. Without written instructions, you will be held responsible for what she forgot.

Re-lifting a fiber that has not recovered

Lashes that curl, bleached tips, brittle brows: this is not a processing-time issue, but an over-processed hair fiber. Repair treatment first, lift afterward. Our guides “lash lift that does not last” and “brow lift that does not last” explain the other causes.

Recommending without observing

“Use a serum” sells nothing. “Your lashes are porous, they need keratin, and this one contains it” sells because it is a diagnosis.

08 — FAQ

FAQ — questions your clients ask

How long should you wait before getting your lashes wet after a lash lift?

24 hours, without exception, including shower steam and perspiration. After 24 hours, warm water dabbed gently is no longer a problem; oils should be avoided for 48 hours.

Can you apply a lash serum after a lash lift?

Yes, and it is even recommended, starting after 48 hours and preferably using a water-based formula (keratin, peptides, hyaluronic acid) rather than an oil. One drop at the roots in the evening is enough.

Does castor oil damage a lash lift?

Applied during the first 48 hours, it can relax the curl. After that, it does not cause damage but offers no more benefit than a suitable serum, and removing it requires rubbing. We do not recommend it as the main post-lift treatment.

Which gel should be used on laminated brows?

A styling gel formulated as a treatment (keratin, without drying alcohol), applied in the morning after brushing, starting the following day. Avoid very strong-hold gels that crack and greasy waxes during the first 48 hours.

Is Step 3 mandatory if the client buys a serum?

Yes. Step 3 closes the cuticle immediately after the treatment, at a time when the client cannot apply anything for 48 hours. The serum takes over afterward; it does not replace closing the cuticle in the salon.

How often should you recommend a restorative treatment such as Botox Cure?

For a client who gets a lash or brow lift and tint every six weeks, use a treatment every other appointment, or as soon as the hair shows signs of fatigue (lightened ends, curling lashes, brittle hairs). For an occasional client, Step 3 and a serum at home are enough.
