Brow lift that doesn't last: the real causes
Brow lift that doesn’t hold: the real causes and solutions
May 16, 2026
Do your brow lifts fall after 10 days? Do your eyebrows not stay in place? Are your clients coming back disappointed? We reveal the 7 real causes that sabotage your brow lift and, most importantly, how to fix them.
1. The quality of the products used
This is THE number 1 cause. Cheap brow lift kits often contain aggressive, poorly dosed thioglycolate that doesn’t properly open the hair’s disulfide bonds. Result: the hold doesn’t last.
Prefer professional brands like Noemi, Zola, or Brow.X Pro, with formulas based on cysteamine or lifting proteins.
2. Insufficient preparation
If you apply Step 1 on eyebrows with sebum, makeup, or cream residue, the product won’t penetrate the hair. It will just slide on the surface and won’t work.
Always clean the eyebrows with a specific cleanser, then dry well before application.
3. Incorrect processing time
The processing time depends on:
- Hair thickness: fluffy eyebrows (8 min) vs thick eyebrows (15 min)
- Skin sensitivity: reactive skin = reduced time
- Product type: gentler cysteamine, faster thioglycolate
The golden rule: start short, you can always extend. The opposite is not true.
4. Brushing in the wrong direction
The brow lift "sets" the hairs in the position you place them during application. If you brush in the wrong direction or unevenly, the result will be chaotic and won’t hold well.
Brush upwards and slightly outwards, following the natural curve of the eyebrow. Use a clean and precise spoolie.
5. Step 2 applied incorrectly
Many Brow Artists rinse Step 2 too quickly. Fatal mistake. The fixer must reform disulfide bonds in the hair’s new position. If it doesn’t have time, the eyebrow falls back in a few days.
Leave on for 8 to 10 minutes minimum, then remove dry with a cotton swab before rinsing.
6. No post-lift care
A brow lift opens the hair's keratin. If you don’t close it with a protein treatment or serum, the eyebrow remains fragile and loses its shape in 7-10 days.
Always finish with a nourishing treatment based on argan oil, keratin, or collagen.
7. Forgotten post-service advice
If your client:
- Wet their eyebrows within 24 hours
- Apply makeup too soon
- Rub their eyebrows
- Go to the sauna / hammam
… the result will be compromised. Give them a written advice sheet at the end of each service.

How long should a brow lift last?
Between 4 and 6 weeks, depending on the hair growth cycle. If less than 3 weeks, there is a technical or product issue.
Does the brow lift damage the eyebrows?
No, provided you use professional products with cysteamine or proteins, and respect the application times. Low-cost products with pure thioglycolate can weaken the hair.
Can you do a brow lift on tattooed eyebrows?
Yes, the brow lift works on the natural hair, not on the tattoo. No risk for permanent makeup.
How often should you redo a brow lift?
Every 4 to 6 weeks. No more often, to avoid weakening the hair.
